ABOUT US

Founded in 1950, Merry Mixers is a non-profit organization committed to supporting and raising funds to enhance the level of care for children at MassGeneral for Children at North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) in Salem, MA. Over $1 million dollars has been raised and donated since inception, with $88,000 donated in 2015 alone during the organization’s 65th anniversary year. 

The Special Care Nursery at MassGeneral for Children at NSMC was recently expanded and updated to a Level II B facility for newborns with help from a $200,000 gift from Merry Mixers. Beginning in 2014, the organization committed to raise funds for the hospital’s Family Resource Center, which provides a wide range of behavioral health resources and services for children, adolescents, families and professionals on the north shore. 

HOW DOES YOUR SUPPORT HELP? 

Your donations through Merry Mixers goes to support the services provided at MassGeneral for Children at NSMC Family Resource Center, which provides a wide range of behavioral health resources and services for children, adolescents, families and professionals. Conferences and workshops are offered year round. Some topics recently covered include:

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Young Children
  • Divorce and It’s Impact on Children’s Development
  • Conquering Bullies
  • School Phobia
  • Supporting Children though a Parent’s Life Threatening Illness

Family education and support programs meet regularly and provide groups to assist with challenges in:

  •     ADHD
  •     Bipolar
  •     Depression for Teens
  •     Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
  •     Grief Recovery after a Substance Passing
  •     Peer Support for Adults Living with a Loved One’s Drug Addiction
  •     Parents Helping Parents
  •     Parenting Teenagers Today
  •     Support for Children living with a Sibling that has any Health Disorder 

Stress reduction clinics are offered year round for children, teenagers and adults. The mindfulness based eight-week sessions have made a dramatic impact on the lives of at-risk children providing essential coping mechanisms; as well as helpful techniques for all in dealing with everyday life stresses and challenges.

In addition, the Family Resource Center has a library with hundreds of books, videos and CDs available to the community and expert staff available to assist families and individuals with their specific needs. Located on the fourth floor at MassGeneral for Children at NSMC, it is open 12-4PM Monday through Friday.
