ABOUT THE MERRY MIXERS

Merry Mixers is a non-profit organization committed to supporting and raising funds for Salem Hospital in Salem, MA. The organization was founded in 1950 by a group of Marblehead women dedicated to supporting and enhancing the level of care for children in the community and across the North Shore. Over $2 million dollars has been raised and donated since inception. Merry Mixers proudly raised funds that aided the expansion of the Special Care Nursery at Mass General Brigham at Salem Hospital. The Special Care Nursery is now a Level II B facility for newborns.

Beginning in 2014, Merry Mixers committed to raise funds for the hospital’s Family Resource Center.  The Family Resource Center provides a wide range of behavioral health resources and services for children, adolescents, families and professionals on the North Shore.

In 2019, Merry Mixers provided funding towards a one-of-a-kind outdoor play space to be used by pediatric psychiatry inpatients.  This space is located in Salem Hospital’s new Epstein Center for Behavioral Health, which opened in October 2019.

For its 70th anniversary year in 2020, Merry Mixers presented Salem Hospital with $73,000 to support the addition of artwork and murals to be added to the pediatric unit in the Epstein Center for Behavioral Health, updates to the Special Care Nursery and continued funding to the Behavioral Health Family Resource Center.

In 2023, Merry Mixers made its largest annual donation to Salem Hospital of $93,000. This donation was earmarked for items such as new breast pumps, ophthalmoscopes and hospital grade refrigeration in the Birth Place, a NeoView Neonatal Intubation sytem in the Special Care nursery, Family Resource Center programming and clinical training for providers in the Pediatric Psychiatry department, and updated pediatric ultrasound items and training in the Pediatric Emergency department. Recent fundraising has also allowed the hospital to acquire a retinal scanner for babies in the Special Care Nursery, without which babies would need to be brought into Boston for a retinal scan at MGH.
